Your Marketable Skill
Saturday is my reset day. I do laundry, clean the floors, clean the kitchen to prep for cooking/baking, put clothes away from the week, and wash the dog's blankets. It's a whole routine that consumes my hours. During those hours, I methodically strategize how I want to promote and create content for the days ahead. Today also, I will attempt to go through Christmas decor'. The kid and I decided we are doing the small tree this year. There is no need to drag out the 6ft much to my dismay! There is no need...
Somewhere between a trip to the basement and or rinsing out the mop bucket, my brain will go into business mode. Deciphering towards Branding your identity; how you promote who you are and what you are about. People can connect to you through understanding your mission over what you are trying to achieve or what you have been through where they share the same sentiments in your journey; people follow and buy from people they like! Reputation and your character say everything about your image and how people view you as a whole. When your image is played out in real time those who have watched close and from afar will either have gained enough information to disrespect or respect you as a person. Although I may be deep into cleaning today, my mind will focus on my words that I am willing to share with the masses and work on my outward appearance that does make an impact. Body language and the confidence behind speaking. If your image does not match the message or the efforts you can not be successful in any manner.
Art in its glory or art therapy has an array of benefits. Even while I am prepping for a new dish, if I were to set up my camera and video the process, I would need to choose the story behind it and the process of creating it! Do not think for one moment cooking or baking is not art therapy! It is the creation of combining ... that visually and tastefully appeals to those who want to learn a new recipe or another way to incorporate health! It also is a way to make money!!!! Laughing, I will add, the wild rice and mushroom soup I made this week with cream, butter and merlot parmesan... screamed... not healthy but OMG delicious! (I am on this kick this winter to create dishes I have never had before) Where I could create a series, "My bite, not yours" It would have people's mouths watering! There is a much-needed energy behind content creating and honestly, I am not there at the 100% capacity. This year life has taken a toll on my verve.
Work, that place you go to interact with people has daunted my vehemence ! Business has fluctuated so much over the last 2 months, it has been said, they are just trying to keep the doors open. It's understandable. An economist I am not but you need not be a rocket scientist to know people are broke and the experience you would like to have at any restaurant is not there when the prices are high and the consistency of excellence wanes. I offer my more than 2 cents on who they could contact or what their other employees should be doing on their personal social media to promote but I am only responsible for my efforts in showing up and out in a "temporary" place that offers me a paycheck based on my performance and service. Where there are no people there is no show to be entertained and inspired or tempted!
I can not express it enough. If you do not have marketable skills outside of what your paycheck job offers you... you are f..ked! One job or skill is not enough anymore because YOU ARE REPLACABLE! With layoffs looming in... you better sharpen your blades because the life you are gonna have to dice up will be in shambles if you have nothing to fall back on!
Your speaking(voice) and your image have to match what you are selling(yourself) to a market that needs what you have to offer! What is your marketable skill? Let me add, if you are still trying to be an American Picker and sell your collectibles to make cash the vend is on hold. Go to any of the thrift stores. The prices have gone up so that right there should tell you if the goodwill has to mark up to stay afloat... no one is going to want your leftover china or glass wares! Adding to that any vendor in the arts and crafts fair world, as an artist with great respect, unless you are giving your merch away cheap, no one cares about the hours you put into making something to use for a season. Gawkers and onlookers think to themselves, "I can make that cheaper myself"
Trust me I have a basement full of arts, crafts, resale and merchandise to house a whole shop! It is on hold.. I am focusing on performance and image! I suggest you do the same...
Briefly, I want to talk about the trades, the good ones are aging out. Poor lifestyle choices, beer bellies and bad health are impacting performance. The "halls" can not get enough apprentices who want to learn or work! Longer hours and work conditions mandated by OSHA or not; is not protecting the environments in which these older folks are attending. You see the amount of people who stand around watching the old guy work... Where retirement should be on their mind... they only see death and the job that is killing them. Where a once very marketable skill in high demand is needed, if that person falls out and there is no secondary skill to fall back on... death will be certain! A person needs purpose and a way! There is pride and it should be upheld by knowing your worth depends on your ability to survive! {having a secondary marketable skill to rely on}
*In my Vision Board Art Enrichment Class, I teach... we briefly talk about jobs and careers and the marketable skills that landed a person in a position. We discuss how they got there and what the decision was that veered them in that direction. In my business coaching class, we discuss all the marketable skills a person has and where their interest is in creating another type of life-based not on society's norm! but based on a commodity, a hidden talent, a raw knowledge and a desire to put an action pact plan together to create another way to make a living! When a person can take a hobby and learn to monetize it and turn it into a profitable margin, coaching, or a consulting business; teaching and or instructing, offering what you have or what you know to a community that needs allows you to earn!
It does not have to make sense to anyone if you see it. There is a way to do it! A person has to be willing to give up the notion there is only one way to do something and have the balls to make the jump and change the idealism behind their thinking.
Over the next 5 years we are going to see a change in agriculture! We will slowly experience a simpler way of life. If you are still living and working in a concrete jungle surrounded by outdated methods, you will not survive! Where medicine and those fields will still exist, they will be demanded to change the outlook towards a healthy lifestyle. Schools will be adding and changing curriculum into homesteading, learning how to work with their hands for creating...a better environment in sustainable materials whether it be towards energy, building materials or reintroducing the trades; via workshop or auto mechanics.
Where a once upon a time nation depended on the talented skills of the people, you whoever is reading needs to think what is it about who you are and what you do that you can take that marketable skill you know and promote a better way of existing by monetizing the knowledge you hold!
Reiterating, build the life you see! Create the plan! Talk about it... feel the excitement that builds your freedom to financial success! Besides your health will thank you!
I teach! I can sew and I can cook/bake! I want 3-7 acres. A home and some land, A barn with several stalls to board other horses, I can train them! I have the skill! I will have the ability to grow and raise chickens to sell eggs or whatever other product I can produce from the ground or create! It is doable... It is sustaining and earning from a marketable proficiency!
