The Roads Traveled Sometimes Are The Lesser Of Two Evils

I typically do not write during the week, everyday life happens and my 2 day a week gig makes for real life reality. It has been my bread and butter for going on the end of 6 years...and continuing on. Wow, I have stayed some place longer than 2! A milestone... the girl that never liked to stay too long anywhere for whatever reason. Never needing a reason to attach. That gypsy soul... has stuck it out to see how it would and still is playing out until I find... or fame and fortune finds me.

Biding time until that winning lottery ticket happens, having a man that won't run, disappear and trade me off for some embarrassing ugly beast. I'm holding open that glorious spot to write for a travel magazine and anticipating the adventure of a lifetime, that amazing wonderful photo opp! That one road trip! Where it does fall into proper perspective...  all things happening according to timing and luck! Throw in talent and perseverance and there people is what you call a successful mission.

Life is happening! It is unfolding...

I wish my dad was here to see this. Although I believe he looks down on occasion and travels with me as I drive, watching how I scope out the road and intently listen to GPS. (road-challenged I am) He smiles... he knows, I am too his daughter. He did teach more than he knows and although so many things came left handed... the lessons taught were learned well. Thanks, dad!!!

My dad had an adventurous soul and had a gift for storytelling. Never feeling comfortable in his own skin and dealing with demons that constantly haunted him... not quite sure about anything but wanting always something more... a fight within himself... to be different. A hard worker... too hard! Always wanting that almighty dollar. He couldn't be happy so he worked... and worked. He could not control the things that went on his life but he could control his money.

I hate money. I despise the feeling of what money does to people... You can not take it with you. Money does not build you happiness! Experience and adventure does... Fuck people learn to be happy!!! Enjoy this life you are living. Look at what you have and what your children see. Look at the environment you have built for them... What legacy are you building? What will your life say about you? You are a product of your environment... what DOES it say about you?

The roads traveled sometimes are the lesser of two evils...

Weekend travels with my dad were the best. Waaaayyy before car seats and buckle up laws, I would sit right next to my dad stretching to see over the dash. Watching every line on the road. Scoping out every road kill and dead tire along the side of the highway... getting truck driving lessons and learning the lay of the land. Dad would say, " now when you see a truck (semi) you never get behind it. You stay back 3 cars lengths. He can't see you. When you're on the side of it, stay back one car length so at least he can view you in his mirror. Wait for him to give you the go ahead to pass, you will know the signal when you see it." I, a little girl so in awe of my dad's knowledge. HE KNEW HOW TO GET US EVERYWHERE!

How would he ever know, I would love to travel?

There is something amazing about getting in a car/truck and just going. I think road tripping has become a lost art. Reading a map has become an ancient ritual and GPS has become a driving staple. There is no reason not to road trip. There is a certain peace that comes over a person while they are driving and when traveling with a companion conversations are had and dialog is spoken. Laughter immerses and you find your commons. Anticipation is built and you get lost in the moments til you arrive at your destination. It's like being a kid again knowing something good is coming. Something good is going to happen and your soul does this happy dance. It's freedom of a whole other kind... beyond any long vacation its a mini escape with glorious results.

As a photographer, my eye glances at so many wonderful views. Camera in hand, it isn't too long before I am snapping away at something eye catching. The words that filter my mind compiling a story to be told. The experience of just being there at that particular time... taking it all in and breathing with this sense of wonder and awe.

You can not compare any other experience with having a gyspy soul. The one that keeps you moving in all directions looking forward to that next long drive... It's a winning tour de force that secures a happening crusade. A milestone only to be told and written about. Leaving a legacy behind for all those who want to know and hear.

The road isn't all that long when the destination is not all that important... it's the journey along the way and all the wonderful things you take in! Yes, life is happening... It's unfolding!

I have arrived at a wonderful place!

Meet Me In St. Louis,
