The Great October Shuffle
If I could get in some order of business. Ya know, not quite a routine, but a placement of what comes first and who comes 2nd without my adhd brain saying, "Well, to do this, you must do this. Like, what would be the purpose if it were out of order?" The order of the house must be cleaned first. It screams a habitual childhood trauma from days long ago. Before anyone could do anything in that house on Marceline Terr. THE HOUSE MUST BE CLEAN. (We never knew who was going to show up) And God forbid those shelves that were draped across a wall behind the sofa had to be dusted, in case a guest came with white gloves on, right? I believe wholeheartedly Gram's intentions were always to make good impressions. It was never discussed how a clean, organized home calmed the chaos that ensued in those walls.
For the last several days, I have rearranged, cleaned, dusted, and removed enough fur that I am certain if I glued the hair back together, I could mold a standard poodle! With windows open and fluctuating weather, I'm trying to ease my soul into some form of organization. Cleanliness might be next to godliness, but having everything in its place and a place for it to hide certainly makes me feel better about my life. I chuckle... no, it doesn't. I lie! (big grin) Lying has never been an attribute of mine... (big sigh)
Tisk task a biscuit in a basket. The sewing projects have been put on hold. I folded the fabric, put it away neatly, and new thread and some quilting rulers are in a box waiting to be opened. Lest not forget that overdue sage couch cover I desperately needed. $50.00 I did not need to spend, but I could not stand it any longer make shifting one more thing out of necessity. I can't calm the chaos in my brain, but I certainly, by golly, can make my home look well put together. The illusion that I got my life together and, alas, all is well with the world. You're buying it, right? (smug face) Anyway, I could not stand looking at my studio aka back room in the mess that it was looking. At one point, Lola and Hank, who love to lie on that sofa and watch me pretend millions are on the way because of my craftiness and unique eye for design, couldn't slink up behind the ironing board that housed the cat. (hand across forehead). So back into its cubby (on the side of the fridge) it went. Lola and Hank have reclaimed their rightful spots. One on each end like bookends. Curated.
The living room once again shifted. I could not for the life of me figure out proportion and scale. This has been an obstacle from day one. (uh 22 yrs ago) Finally, I gave in and asked AI to rearrange what I had to make this space work. Swapping out a few tables did it. Also, knowing that the new sage green cover will tie it together. It will now look sumptuous, matching the drab green wall and door I painted a month ago. Remember, we are calming the environment for ambience and illusion. (raising my one eyebrow) Honestly, the last thing I need to attempt is to mount the TV on the wall. Viola perfection for those nights I want a little ASMR to soothe the mind and quiet the dogs. They love it as much as I do. {It's a great trick. Try it!}
This week ahead, I have nothing on the books compared to last week, when I was everywhere across the ton. (pardon the Bridgerton pun) I picked up a temporary staffing position. They have been placing me in various settings until real work beckons. Unemployment is still at 4.5%, and the labor force only added 29,000 jobs for Sept. Slow to low growth means there might be positions available; due to not enough revenue to pay for the position, it remains open, and companies are scrambling to figure it out while trying not to lay anyone off. Low to hire, low to fire, and not enough placement to fulfil ANYTHING! My only requirements: location, and I'm no longer able to carry a tray or lift anything over 25lbs. A herniated disc and a shoulder that could give out at any moment hinder me from such tasks. As of late, with my arms wide open, I say, "I am this close to retiring" (another fabricated scenario). Retirement is a myth. It is something someone stated a very long time ago in some book, like a fairy tale that does not exist! I sit, and I wait... Trying to find anything to look forward to.
I'll keep this writing short. There's a front yard that needs to be weeded out. The mums are peeking through with colorful buds. Fall is always a time I find refreshing. Something out of nowhere always happens in the fall: the changing of the weather. The falling of leaves. The quaint whispers that something is going to be revealed right before our very eyes. And that is not a lie!
