In The Mean Time
My time right now is being used very wisely. My usual direction of not knowing where to turn next still demands a GPS! I have found myself on this road too many times in the last several years. All the starts and stops have become so redundant I feel like the scarecrow in the wizard of oz...pointing in all directions.
Currently, I am standing at a fork in the road. Not wanting to be lost...I am so afraid if I go down any of these roads I am going to end up right back where I started...NOWHERE!
The company I was associated with pulled a very fast one on me and although they claimed it to be a business choice I very much took it personal. A new hire that was to run the STL location turned into a scheduling demon and used her power of authority to take advantage of situation. The way I see it telling lies to higher ups to cover her own behind is not professional or anything I want to be associated with!!! Why people get put into some positions is unbeknownst to me. They must have baffled their way into the position and talked a good game of bull. I would imagine it will only take a matter of time before they are given enough rope that they will hang themselves...or the company realizes that another 5 people have quit because of the pit-bull on a power trip! All I can say is chalk that up to a bad experience! I loved the principle of the operation. I really believed it was a great concept!!! The execution of the operation turned into a nightmare and throw in ego's... and my friends you have yourself a horrific collision of personalities! Almost an epic disaster in the making!!
I now am looking down another painting avenue to explore. Creative opportunities are not easy to come by and getting associated with the right venue is a crucial make or break situation. Artist are think out of the box types. Each has an ego not because they think they are better than anyone but because they take their creative endeavors so personally they feel! And once feelings are involved watch out...
Then there are those other operations where they think..."why I can do that" and they don't have a clue how to put a plan together. With any kind of business, you have to have a solid plan and it has to be wrote in stone. You don't wing it and change it during game play... Business' lose all sorts of credibility when they start to change the rules and lose the people who wanted to be associated with them. When business' rely on a customer base you are promising them a solid service. The business is promising reliability and accountability establishing a relationship with that client. It is only when the person they have begin to trust is no longer there...the customer is not only disappointed but feels betrayed by what they were sold on.. Also when the person implementing the plan fails to have follow through and no sort of evidence of stability it just looks bad on all parties involved!
In any service or product based business you want to have the right individual doing the job and you have to take into effect everybody's character and personalities. You want to know the person in charge is going to mesh and not clash with who they are having to monitor. So whatever based industry you have, you should know how to deal with your employees, contractors etc... I don't see it as rocket science just plain business practical sense!!!
So in the meantime, while looking and gathering yet another set of maps... I am painting and putting my creative energies elsewhere. I have slowly started to gain some recognition for my talents. I am sending out letters to particular groups that I want to be associated with. I know my business ethics and practices. I might be an artist but I hold myself in a high regard when it comes to me being affiliated with organizations. Not only do I have a responsibility to them but I have a responsibility to myself. When my name is connected to something it does bring some awareness and I don't want any bad press for either one of us.
It will only be a short matter of time before I am happily painting, writing, and instructing for someone again. A wise person once told me, "Kit, God does not give one person this much talent if he did not have a plan for you to use it"!
And I'll happily take that advice to heart and to the bank!
