Imperfectly Finished...At Least For Now!
Sitting in my pretty unfinished pink office, I am reminded that nothing is perfect. Although I could be putting the finishing touches on my work space, I feel compelled to write about what I have not done. If you have not been made aware "yet" let me be the first to tell you, "there is an art at procrastinating"! And actually I have become very darn good at it!
I felt several months ago that if I had the perfect office space I would be more inclined and focused to get things, projects, missions accomplished and done! Well "ha"! I say... to date, I have found more reasons not to finish my lovely vision.
My first excuse being, I did run out of the "Classic Cherry Creme" paint. So to make the paint stretch I added water to it. Oh the walls are finished and the floor is almost complete. I figured well, "since I ran out of paint I'll doodle black diamonds floating in areas to mimic a rug". So I taped off the floor and painted my diamond shapes. The plan was to remove the tape, fill in the black and border with gray, as to add that same gray border around the floor up to the base board. Well guess what? The diamonds are painted in and the tape has been removed. Yep that's it all I did!.
Next was well, "lets paint all the trim black" since I had the black paint out. Most of the trim was finished up til I got to the door. So there I stood with the paint brush in my hand and thought, "Well I can't paint the door because its missing all the trim". So with great frustration the black paint got put away! And until I can figure out how to miter corners or the carpenter fairy shows up...the door isn't going to get painted!
Following was, "I will paint the mirror and the picture frame a cream white" then I can hang the mirror for more light and then frame my prized vision board. So I started that. It got two coats of paint and then it needed to dry. Ok so now its dry in fact its been dry for a month. Do you think I could have gone back to finish it? C'mon really... Let's get real here! If I haven't gone back to finish the other projects why would I complete this one? LOL
So I than thought, "well until I get the energy to go back and paint I''ll go buy fabric". So painstakingly, I rummaged through fabrics for hours on end to find the perfect material to give that french chic look to my office. I picked a beautiful pink toile and a black complementing toile fabric. I also purchased a funky pink, black and lime green striped piece of material to add to something of an extra pop of color.
So there it was, I had the fabric in my hand. I was thrilled and enthusiastically I was thinking (another mistake...thinking!) When I get home I'll break out the sewing machine and I will sew curtains for the window, door and I will take the striped material and make a chair cover or maybe some pillows!!! How do you think that project went? Yep you guessed it! Material is still in the bag but hey I did at least put it buy the sewing machine.
I am proud to say that I did though go and buy some pictures to hang. Now of course I only hung them on one side of the room because I have to hang the mirror and the vision board on the other!
I'd like to say I am blaming this procrastination on the weather but I don't really think that is what it is... I think I am just in this funk of an unknown. When I am in a direction of no plans, I can not think or function in general. So to finish this task right now looks like it ain't gonna happen any time soon! Unfortunately until I come upon a new road to meander down..the pink office is going to have to stay imperfectly finished!
I would imagine we all go through these phases and I do believe "This Too Shall Pass" but. if it is the weather, it can't stay cold and snowy forever?? Can it??? Oh goodness no! So until I find the energy and the drive to complete this task, I think for now I'll go take a nap and think about that day when my pretty in pink office is perfect!
