Welcome... 53!
When I set out to do this photo shoot, my intent purpose was to do some fun vintage pin up shots for publicity needs. Since I started writing for Play Channel Magazine, I needed a few fun shots. I also thought with my birthday in the week ahead... Not a model by any means "let's just see what this 53 to be old girl could R-E-P-R-E-S-E-N-T!" LOL
It had taken weeks to gather my ideas and shopping for the right outfit became imperative. I was going for a look and I knew I needed to stay in that stream of vintage. Strategically, I plotted in my mind how I wanted the shoot to go. I set out to find the correct photographer and I specifically chose Brian Mueller Photography because of his professionalism and the ease he puts his clients at. I knew in the long run it would be his professional eye and at my discretion on the shots that he would take. I needed to have the control.
Honestly, nothing in this world makes a woman feel more beautiful then when playing dress up and "performing" for the camera. I can say, it is not easy to make love to that camera. (please do not take that out of contents!) Not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera and it does take a certain mind set to have your pictures taken for entertainment purposes.
As we discussed the clothing and the look I was trying to achieve, In the back of my mind, I was remembering (more like it was gnawing,) I was going to be 53. Why all of sudden it came forefront I didn't know? Growing older had never been an issue and actually probably at this particular time in my life, I have finally...finally become comfortable in and with my own skin.
"Youth is wasted on the young" I think not!! Here at 53, I am in the best shape of my life and finally achieving recognition for some of my work and talents.
Why should I not be proud of "who I am and what I am all about?" It has taken many years to get where I am and I am PROUD! I am CONFIDENT...
(the twist in all this, I have NEVER thought I am all that and a bag of chips. I am a relatively simple woman from South St. Louis who has had to wear many hats in order to survive while raising a family on my own!)
As I was going through these movements and playing nice with the camera, I had to stop and think of my 3 children. I could NOT bring them any embarrassment!!! If I have taught them anything, I have taught them image says everything about who you are and what you stand for. Also when you are in the public eye you have a responsibility. We live in this time where J. Lo, Kim K, Christina Aguilera, and the likes of many more have made it ok to have this young sex appeal and it has become a modern statement for young women and although I am all for sex appeal it seems the mature should not be left out but with a new set of terms. There is a responsibility and it is to set the correct examples accordingly.
As I made my way changing to the 3rd outfit, I recalled a conversation with a friend. While out having a drinks we were watching a sports something or another, the young sexy girls on tv promoting the team. In brief, I made the comment, "Wonder what its like to be them?' My friend, tilted his head and looked oddly at me said, "You are one of those girls. What are you talking bout?" I continued to look at those girls thinking really? Not saying another word...
So here it was, down to the last round of photo taking and I thought why not? At 53, if I can not make a positive statement about aging, being confident and proving sex appeal is more than well alive with the mature, there would never be another time.
When it was all said and done, I was pleased at how the session went. At that time not really knowing how the final pictures would look but I very much had trusted the photographer and his eye! Believing they would turn out the best they could with what he had to work with...
I am not Kim K or J. Lo and not even a Marilyn or Sophia (LOL) but I kindly ask you to view Brian Mueller Photography's incredible work... What needs to be remembered: Any body can be "made" and any body can play a part!
What you have, is who you are and you need to make the very best of out of YOU!
I think I did ok R-E-P-R-E-S-E-N-T-E-N!
Welcome 53!
